Kimon Papadimitriou (Dr. Rural and Surveying Engineer, Scuba Instructor) was born in 1971 in Thessaloniki. He has been working as academic staff member in the department since 2014. Until 2012 he was active as a professional engineer, member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. Since 2002, he has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Sciences. As a scuba diver instructor, in 2015 he developed and certified the “Underwater Survey Diver”, a non-formal education program, while subsequently he has been certified as a PADI instructor in the “Wreck Detective” and “Photogrammetry Diver” distinctive specialties. In parallel, he participated in the working groups of ISPRS “Underwater Data Acquisition and Processing”, and CIPA “Earth Observation in Cultural Heritage Documentation”. Since its founding in 2017, he coordinates the Underwater Survey Team, an initiative for the collaboration of researchers and divers in the context of Citizen Science, aiming to document and promote Underwater Heritage. In 2019, he developed through the Center for Education and Lifelong Learning, and here then he directs the first university Scientific Diving Training Program in Greece. In 2021 he was invited as an expert and since 2023 he represents the Hellenic Body for Standardization in the working group ISO/TC228/WG1 of the International Standards Organization, towards the development and implementation of a series of standards for the Training of Scientific Divers.
