Born in Thessaloniki. Dr. Georgios Mallinis is a Professor of Remote Sensing in the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He is a member of the Laboratory of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and serves as a Director of the Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography Department (2023-).

He has a Bachelor’s degree on Forestry and Natural Environment, with a PhD in Remote Sensing and GIS of Forest Ecosystems.  Between 2013-2020 he served as a Faculty Member at the Democritus University of Thrace in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing.

He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Environmental Management and Section Editor-in-Chief of Forests (Natural Hazards and Risk Management Section), and is/has been a member of the Editorial Board of Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Revue Internationale de Géomatique (RIG) and ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. He has published more than 61 articles indexed in the ISI Web of Science. He has coordinated and participated in a significant number of EU and  nationally funded research projects (>41).

Between the years 2014-2021 he served as Chairman of the Board of the Management Body of the North Pindos National Park, and since 2023 he is the Coordinator of the Local Management Committee of the Management Unit of the National Park of Olympus.
