Dr. Apostolos Axenopoulos was born in Thessaloniki. Since 2024, he is an Assistant Professor at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He is also a member of the Laboratory of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at the Department of Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography. He has received his diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2003, his MSc in Advanced Computing Systems from the same department in 2008 and his PhD from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the University of Thessaly in 2014. His research interests include Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Axenopoulos has published more than 60 papers in peer reviewed international journals and conferences. He has worked as research assistant and post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, and, since 2003, he has participated in more than 20 research projects funded by the EC and Greece, while in 5 out of these projects he had the role of the Technical Manager. He is also member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
