Grigorios (Greg) Fountas is an Assistant Professor in the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in Greece. Between 2018 and 2022, he served as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Transport Research Institute (TRI) of the Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) in Scotland, whereas between 2016 and 2018, he also served as a Research Assistant and Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering of the University at Buffalo , USA. He received his 5-year degree in civil engineering (MEng) from the National Technical University of Athens in Greece, and his doctorate from the University at Buffalo. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, book chapters, datasets, and technical reports. His work has been featured in various global media and tech news outlets, such as BBC, the World Economic Forum, Forbes, The Times, Tech Times, and Intelligent Transport. He is Associate Editor of “Analytic Methods in Accident Research” (AMAR) (ranked #1 Journal in Safety Research subject area by both Scopus and Web-of-Science), Associate Editor of the SAGE’s “Transportation Research Record” (TRR), and of “Frontiers in Built Environment” and “Frontiers in Future Transportation.” He serves also as Editorial Board member in the Oxford Academic’s “Transportation Safety and Environment” and AIMS Press’ “AIMS Environmental Science”. As of April 2024, he serves as the Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Statistical and Econometric Methods Committee (AED60). He has been involved as Member or Fellow in several international scientific and educational organisations, such as the American Association of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), the Higher Education Academy (HEA), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He has also received several awards and recognitions from several organisations and entities, such as the University at Buffalo, the Transportation Research Board, the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA).
